During 2019, Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) were established in 27 schools in Central Sulawesi and Lombok in Indonesia and Golaghat district in Assam, India. These CFS were established as a part of the Early Recovery and Response Projects in Indonesia and India, to provide educational and psycho-social support to children affected by disaster.
FADV Task Force trained the teachers who run the CFS, on using Teaching Learning Materials and Fun Games to engage children. Teaching Learning materials and Recreational materials were provided by FADV in all the CFS.
The CFS are providing the children, affected by disaster, both in India and Indonesia a safe space to develop, learn and play. The CFS engages children in:
- Practicing Focus
- Practicing Cohesiveness
- Practicing Sensitivity to Commands
- Practice concentration through meditation
Every week the children are engaged in various activities like:
- Drawing
- Playing (balloon chain, jump ball game, ocean ball game, BATTLE YEL-YEL)
- Preparing Handicrafts (paper flowers origami)
The teachers experienced visible improvement among the children, after a month, especially those who were suffering from trauma. Few improvements among the children which deserve a mention are:
- More children are able to concentrate on various activities that they are engaged in,
- Children who were reluctant to engage with their peers are opening up to the larger group and participating in activities
